Hooded Flame Wrasse

The Hooded Flame Wrasse is a striking deep-water fairy wrasse named for the fiery red-orange "hood" that covers the head of mature males, fading into a soft pink-to-lavender body. Males flare their fins in bright courtship displays that make this species a true centerpiece.

Collected from deeper reefs in the Coral Sea, it is rarely offered and highly prized by fairy wrasse collectors. It is peaceful, active, and spends its day swimming in the open water column. As a deeper-water species, it appreciates moderate lighting and some shaded areas while it settles in. A tight-fitting lid or mesh screen is strongly recommended, as fairy wrasses are known jumpers.

It feeds on zooplankton in the wild and does best on a varied diet of frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, and fine pellets offered several times a day.
