Choat’s Leopard Wrasse

The Choat's Leopard Wrasse is a rare and highly sought-after leopard wrasse, recognized for its pale body covered in bright orange-red spots, each ringed with fine blue edging. Native to the reefs of eastern Australia and the Coral Sea, it is one of the most coveted members of the Macropharyngodon genus and seldom available in the trade.

This species is best suited for experienced aquarists with mature, well-established systems. It is peaceful toward most tankmates and spends its day picking through rockwork for small invertebrates. A deep, fine sand bed of at least 2 inches is essential, as this wrasse buries itself in the sand to sleep and when stressed. A lid is recommended to prevent jumping.

In the wild it feeds on copepods and other tiny crustaceans, so an established tank with a healthy pod population is ideal. Offer frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, and fine meaty foods several times a day. Careful acclimation and a stable environment are key to long-term success.
